I’ve wanted to see Prince Edward Island since the first time I read Anne of Green Gables when I was a girl. L.M. Montgomery’s descriptions of a place so dear to Anne were so vivid that I could easily imagine walking along those pastoral scenes in Avonlea.
Of course Avonlea is actually based on Cavendish, the place where L.M. Montgomery grew up and called “home” in her heart long after she left it. I haven’t made it to Prince Edward Island in person yet, but we can do the next best thing — a virtual field trip! Sharing these books with my daughters now makes it even better.
By using our imaginations and visiting these websites, we can take a virtual tour of the places that Anne (and her creator Lucy) loved:
Green Gables and L.M. Montgomery on the Parks Canada website
My favorite ~ a virtual room-by-room tour of the real Green Gables! This is on the Prince Edward Island government website.
I included Anne of Green Gables in my 5 Days of Classic Books for Girls series as well. You can read more about Anne in that post.
Have you taken any virtual field trips lately?
