Although some people dismiss lapbooking as busywork, that’s simply not true. I’ve already talked about 10 reasons to love lapbooking in your homeschool and I think those reasons disprove the idea that lapbooking is busywork. My girls have learned a great deal about varied topics — and retained that information — that they wouldn’t have if not for lapbooking. If you have a creative child who thrives on hands-on learning, you’ll want to try lapbooking in your homeschool!
Our Favorite Lapbooking Resources
Through our years of lapbooking, I’ve found some favorite resources that we turn to again and again. They not only offer high-interest and high-quality learning, but they’re also very budget-friendly. A bonus for homeschool families!
Knowledge Box Central
They have a wide variety of topics, including Bible, science, literature, and economics/finances. The study guides are thorough. Age range preschool to high school. They’re currently offering a 50% off sale through August 1st, so now would be a great time to give them a try!
A Journey through Learning
AJTL covers all subjects for the PreK through middle school age ranges. They also have lapbooks to go along with popular curriculum publishers like Apologia, Classical Conversations, Geography Matters, The Prairie Primer, and others. Express lapbooks are only $1 to $2.99 and require only one file folder so they are perfect for beginners or when you just want a fun supplement to your current studies. (They also offer a free lapbook when you sign up for their newsletter.)
In the Hands of a Child
HOAC is very thorough with their lapbook projects and include study guides with reading material that you need to complete the lapbooks. They have tons of subject/topic choices and will even design a custom lapbook for you by special order.
These were the first lapbooks we ever made. They are all free and focus mainly on elementary literature in the style of Five in a Row.
Apologia Science Student Notebooking Journals/Lapbooks
We have used these spiral-bound books for the elementary science series. They not only have lapbook components, they also include word puzzles, quizzes, and notebooking elements. They are great if you take a Charlotte Mason approach in your studies.
There are hundreds of lapbooks available at Currclick, both free and reasonably priced. You can find just about any subject you might want to study. All are available for instant download so it’s easy to search the topic you’re looking for and get started right away.
